
Empathetic Environmentalist

The UCI Science Project and Empatico partnered to create this virtual exchange program to equip students ages 11-14
years old with a strong foundation of empathy-centered skills as they learn and discuss the impacts of climate change
in both their local and global communities. Our goal is to foster a generation of empathetic problem solvers who
show curiosity about others’ perspectives and ideas, and are able to communicate and collaborate respectfully.
Grade Levels: 6-8
Duration: 5 days (50-minute classes)
Concepts/Skills: Reduced Inequality, Sustainable Cities and Communities, Responsible Consumption and Production, Climate Action, Life Below Water and On Land, Partnerships for the Sustainable, Development Goals
Objectives:
- Learn about climate change and its effects on their own communities.
- Explore stories and perspectives of diverse communities being tangibly impacted by climate change,
particularly stories of action, hope, and resilience, and - Build solidarity as they take compassionate and informed action together.
